People pass by a giant advertising board in Beijing May 22, 2007.
Chinanews, Beijing, May 24 - According to the People's Daily, China has
become the fourth largest advertising market, after the US, Japan and
Britain. The total sales of the Chinese advertising industry hit 157.3
billion yuan in 2006, a 11.1% growth compared with 2005, of which 79.79
billion yuan were made by traditional advertisement in TV programs,
newspapers, radios and magazines, a 18.2% growth.
Statistics show that there were 1,040,099 people working in the
advertising industry in 2006, 10.6% more than in 2005.
However, Liu Fan, vice president of the State Administration of Industry
and Commerce, points out that there are four problems behind the booming
of the Chinese advertising industry. First, there are not many
influential advertising enterprises in China. Second, China lacks
experienced and professional advertising personnel. Third, the Chinese
advertising industry is witnessing an imbalanced growth, for the
advertising enterprises in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangdong alone gained a
total sales value of 76.75 billion yuan in 2006, about 48.8% of the total
figure in China. Fourth, fake advertisements still remain a headache for
Chinese.
"The State Administration of Industry and Commerce will work out
regulations to guide the advertising industry this year, and a standard
for evaluating advertising personnel," said Liu.
