Special bars in Xi'an
www.chinanews.cn 2005-01-17 17:13:54
Chinanews, Jan. 16 (By Lie Wei) - Nowadays, bars in big cities have
already gone beyond their original meaning of a public drinking house.
Bars are taking on new forms with a variety of new selling points.
Various special bars have quietly sprung up in the ancient Xi'an city
this winter and they are becoming the latest fad.
Weaving bar
Handmade cloth has a long history in the central Shaanxi plain area.
"Blue for winter, white for summer, and black for spring and fall" is a
vivid description of how people used to dress up. In recent years, as
people favor more natural products, handwoven cloth has become popular
again. Old-time weaving bars have quietly opened on many streets in Xi'an.
As the reporter noticed, weaving bars are decorated explicitly primitive:
wooden spinning wheels, long "guaishenzi" (equipment for weaving),
pendants and decorations with various patterns. The whole sets of
weaving equipment were set up in the bar, with local dyeing and weaving
masters guiding you real time and on the spot. Customers are designers
here, choosing their own colored threads and weaving a piece of cloth
that they will feel a sense of achievement.
Soccer bar
Xi'an was once a "super-platinum" soccer city. When people think of Xi'an
soccer fans, especially those in the stadium, they will remember the
persistence, passion, devotion and boundless vigor those fans showed the
country.
However those soccer fans showing up in a "soccer bar" located in the
busiest commercial center in Xi'an are of a different kind. They seem to
be easy-going, simply chatting about soccer and drinking to a toast, as
if an exciting soccer game will be starting any minute.
Chocolate Bar
The chocolate we usually refer to are those nicely-wrapped ones. But the
"Handmade Chocolate Bar' in Xi'an provides customers with a brand-new
experience. Customers can not only choose the shape of the chocolate of
their personal liking but also enjoy the fun of making the chocolate
themselves.
It was learned that after first heating and melting a piece of chocolate
one can choose a certain mould, squeeze the liquid chocolate into the
mould with a paste bag and, when it is cool, he or she can make the
chocolate of various shapes such as hearts, shells, flowers, characters,
pokers and the 12 animal signs. There are altogether 50 to 60 moulds to
choose from. Handmade chocolate can be in various colors, unlike common
chocolate colors that is either black, white or coffee. Here you can make
lemon-flavored yellow chocolate and strawberry-flavored red chocolate.
Bookshop bar
As an ancient capital for 13 dynasties, Xi'an has a profound tradition
for books. Bookshops of different sizes can be found everywhere in Xi'an.
That is probably why "bookshop bars" are popular among white-collars. In
these bars, customers are surrounded by high bookshelves. With exquisite
bar stools, tables and good wine and beverages on the table, these bars
blend the special feelings of buying a book and reading it with a drink
at hand. The aroma of print ink from the books and the flavor of wine mix
in the air. To make the bar experience more fun, bookshop bars often
sponsor entertainment shows and literature salons and organize social
gathering between writers and readers.
